Postponement of routine care due to COVID-19 increases public health risk
For decades we have been dependent on childhood vaccinations to eliminate the risk of contracting a number of common, highly contagious diseases. This year, with COVID-19 altering everyday life, there has been a dramatic decrease in the rate of vaccination among children. This drop leaves the country below the threshold needed for community protection, putting the entire population at risk for outbreaks of diseases long thought to be eradicated in the U.S.
